LOVESTORY LEHENGA

“For as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of designing my own wedding trousseau. Those who know me, know that I’m not very conventional in my ways and so, a traditional Indian wedding wasn’t something I had ever imagined or wanted.

However, when my husband Vanraj – who is quite the traditionalist – said he wanted a big fat Indian wedding with all the ceremonies, I surprised myself by not fighting it. I was ecstatic to start my life with him and celebrate it in as many ways as possible.

The one thing I did decide was to design and create all of my outfits. And I wanted the piece I got married in to be truly one-of-a-kind. I wanted it to represent who I am, and tell our love story. And so I began work on my own Love Story Lehenga, one kali (or panel) at a time. Our names were hand sewn in beautiful zari, which was hidden into the embroidery of the fabric, forming a delicate optical illusion.

Each kali had intricate frames, in which I showcased all the important moments of our life – our dating milestones, the proposal and every detail of our love story. The bottoms of my lehenga and dupatta were finished with a hem of jumping dolphins, which was how our story began. I completed my look with some beautiful jadau jewelry that Vanraj designed for me, and it felt so perfect to be wearing both of our designs on our special day. Wearing my Krésha Bajaj lehenga was the most exhilarating feeling. It looked beautiful, elegant and traditional. With that cherished memory, I started my journey with my husband and also understood what I wanted to do with my brand – share the same joy I felt with beautiful brides all over the world.”
